Why we name them
"Sourced globally" is the phrase most jewellery brands use, and it means nothing. It lets a supply chain change hands three times without anyone having to say so, and it makes it impossible for you to check anything.
We buy from fourteen named sources and list them below. Several of our stones come from more than one, which is why the number is bigger than the number of stones we sell. When a source changes — and they do, mines close and seams run out — we update this page rather than quietly swapping it out.
Where each stone is from
These are the producing regions our sources work in. A stone's origin shows up in its colour and clarity, which is why we don't blend a batch and call it one thing.
| Stone | Producing region |
|---|---|
| Black obsidian | Mexico |
| Garnet | India, Mozambique |
| Smoky quartz | Brazil, Switzerland |
| Citrine | Brazil |
| Pyrite | Peru, Spain |
| Amethyst | Brazil, Uruguay |
| Blue lace agate | Namibia |
| Rose quartz | Madagascar, Brazil |
| Moonstone | India, Sri Lanka |
| Clear quartz | Brazil, United States |
| Labradorite | Madagascar, Finland |
| Green fluorite | China, Mexico |
How we check a source
Before we buy from anyone, three things have to be true:
- 1. We know who dug it. Not the trader, not the exporter — the operation that took the stone out of the ground.
- 2. We've seen the working conditions. Either we've been there or someone we trust has. No child labour, no debt-bonded crews, no working at night by torchlight.
- 3. The paperwork matches the stone. Export documentation that names the same origin the seller told us. When it doesn't line up, we walk.
We buy direct wherever the size of the operation allows it, which is most of them. Where it doesn't, we buy from a small number of long-standing partners and say so rather than pretending otherwise.
Why it costs what it costs
A $135 necklace isn't $135 of stone. Roughly, it breaks down like this:
- The stone — the smallest share, usually. Rarity drives this more than size does.
- The metal and the making — 14k gold-filled findings and the hand-setting, which is where most of the cost sits.
- The checking — every piece is inspected, cleansed and packed by hand before it ships.
- Getting it to you — shipping, and the duties and VAT we cover on EU and UK orders so nothing is collected at your door.
We're not the cheapest and we're not trying to be. Cutting the third item on that list is the usual way a crystal brand gets cheap, and it's the one we won't do.
What we don't claim
- We don't claim a certification we haven't paid for and can't show you.
- We don't call a stone "ethically sourced" as a slogan — the three checks above are the actual standard, and you can hold us to them.
- We don't claim our stones do anything medical. They're for personal practice and general wellbeing, and experience varies.
If something here doesn't add up, or you want to know where a specific piece came from, ask us and we'll answer with the source name.
